The new population signs are up all over Rockford and it appears the amount of people living in the Forest City is dwindling.

According to an Instagram post from brianleggero, Rockford has "lost 5220 residents in just over five years." Adding Rockford "used to be the number 2 city in Illinois just over a decade ago."

A recent post by Homes.com highlighted the Top 10 cities in Illinois by population in which Rockford ranked third with 151,290 behind Aurora and of course, Chicago.

Joliet and Naperville weren't far behind though and if the big dip in Rockford population holds, it's extremely likely both cities now have more residents.

Does Rockford's dwindling population bother you? Is there any reason for Rockford residents to be concerned with how many people have left town in recent years? Let us know!
