Huge Increase In Candy Sales For Halloween This Year

This year for Halloween, a huge increase in candy sales.

Is it just me or does it seem like Halloween sneaks into our lives earlier and earlier every year? It feels like everything has been out at the stores since at least Labor Day. As a kid, I remember, October was Halloween month. No earlier and no later.

The stores are loaded with all your favorite treats, costumes, and decorations. I drove by a Halloween store over the weekend and it was really busy. There are a bunch of houses decorated in my neighborhood. We even did a little more than usual.

I think people are really looking forward to Halloween. Even with many question marks surrounding what the final restrictions will be. It's 2020, so those could change in a moments notice.

The uncertainty hasn't scared people away from spending. Especially, when it comes to buying candy.

According to tmj4.com,

"Sales of Halloween candy and chocolate at grocery stores are up 17 percent over 2019 so far this season, according to the National Confectioners Association. Total sales, including online purchases, is up 13 percent year-over-year."

Americans have been leaning on sugary treats for comfort during this pandemic.

"The NCA released data over the summer showing chocolate was the treat of choice of Americans during the pandemic, with sales increasing five percent March through August over the same time period in 2019."

We still have a couple of weeks until "Trick or Treating," so those numbers could go up more because a lot of consumers tend to wait until the last minute to purchase candy.

I'm excited to see Halloween become a bigger holiday. It's always been one of my favorites.
