It's true that times are challenging for businesses and that's also the situation for many volunteer organizations that are caring for others. 41 animals in Illinois had to be rescued recently when the shelter they were in suddenly had to close down.

Fox 32 in Chicago just shared this story about 41 animals who already were in desperate need of forever homes that now are under emergency care from PAWS in Chicago.

The 41 animals that were part of an Illinois shelter had to be picked up by PAWS Chicago after their southern Illinois shelter closed.

I checked the PAWS Chicago website and now they have 64 dogs and 48 cats awaiting adoption.

Dogster had some alarming statistics about abandoned animals in Illinois. Chicago alone has the highest density of dogs in the United States with 22 dogs for every 100 people. Amazing.

The Zebra estimates there are more than 6.5 million pets abandoned every year and only 3.2 million ever find homes.

My family walks the talk. We have taken in 3 abandoned rabbits into our family, but those like us can only do so much. Here's hoping that many who have a place in their family for a dog or cat will come forward and provide homes for these animals. I've found that there are no animals like shelter animals that seem to appreciate being in a home.
