It's been a really rough year for Boar's Head, as I'm sure you know. Granted, it was probably far rougher for the 10 people who died (including one Illinois resident) and the 60-plus people across 19 states who found themselves sick after consuming Boar's Head deli meat that had been contaminated with listeria.

What started out as a recall of around 200,000 pounds of deli meat due to the presence of listeria quickly got much bigger when 7 million pounds of deli meats were added to the overall recall effort.

As you might imagine, a listeria outbreak that killed 10, sickened over 60, and frightened countless other deli meat consumers has produced a bunch of lawsuits, including one that you can join in on the settlement offer.

This All Started Last July When The First Recall Of 200,000 Pounds Of Boar's Head Deli Meats Was Announced--Then The Number Went Up To 7 Million Pounds

Those deli meats were produced at the Boar's Head facility in Jarratt, Virginia, which Boar's Head later permanently closed due to several problems like mold and insects, along with dripping water and meat and fat remnants on the plant's walls, floors and equipment that dated back at least two years, according to inspectors and published reports.

When the CDC declared the listeria outbreak to be over in the fall of last year, there were 10 people dead and 61 hospitalized--and plenty of lawsuits on the near horizon, including a particularly sad lawsuit filed by the family of a man who had survived the Holocaust only to have his life terminated by a liverwurst sandwich.

Several lawsuits were filed against Boar’s Head, including one from the family of an 88-year-old Virginia man and Holocaust survivor, who died after eating liverwurst that was ultimately implicated in the recall.

Now, A Class-Action Lawsuit That Has Combined Other Lawsuits Filed Against Boar's Head Is Attempting To Get Refunds To People Who Bought Boar's Head Products That Were Included In Last Summer's Recall

I've got to be honest when I tell you that the numbers are far smaller than many people expected them to be. Boar’s Head Provisions Co., Inc. has agreed to pay claimants $3.1 million, minus court costs and other fees. That's it.

According to the lawsuit settlement website, you're eligible for a piece of the settlement if you're what they call a “Settlement Class Member," which they define as:

“All natural persons who purchased in the United States any Covered Products between the earliest date of manufacture of any Covered Product (May 10, 2024) and August 12, 2024 for personal, family or household use, and not for resale, except for any Excluded Persons.”

Here's what you need to know if you wish to take part in the settlement, according to FastCompany.com:

    • You have proof of purchase for a product covered under the settlement. If you have proof of purchase for a covered product, you are eligible to “receive the full purchase price for each unit of Covered Product listed on the Proof of Purchase, subject to adjustment as set forth below.”
    • You do not have proof of purchase for a product covered under the settlement. In this case, you can “receive the average retail price for up to two (2) Covered Products claimed per Household, subject to adjustment as set forth below.”
    • Claims must be filed by May 16, 2025.
