The Internet Wants To Know Why This Listed Illinois Home Has A Cage In The Basement
House design choices can always get entertaining.
Our houses reflect our personalities. If you're a trendy beige fan, your house is probably mostly beige and influencer-inspired. If you have kids, your house is probably covered with "Bluey" toys. If you are more edgy, you might have something like this in your house.
A house listed (and now contingent) on Redfin appeared in one of my favorite Facebook groups "Nightmare On Zillow Street". The house is at 3943 W. Arthington Street in Chicago. That is not said to be a good area of the city and it's priced at $99,000.
I love when listings refer to houses as "projects" or "fixer-uppers" and the houses are sold as-is. That's the case with this one. It was built in 1908, still with "lots of original woodwork" and sits on a 3,125 sq ft. lot. It has 3 bedrooms on the upper floor and one on the main floor. One bathroom. But evidently a "large" backyard that has room for a garage. It has a full unfinished basement (more on that in a minute) and a separate dining room.
What's intriguing people in the Facebook group isn't just the state of the house, but the very random thing in the basement. The house immediately gave me haunted vibes because it's so old and in need of fixing up. It looks like it's seen some stuff and has stories to tell. It could possibly be turned into a nice-looking family home though.
