How To Survive A Minnesota Winter: 5 Essential Items

We are in the season where I start to question why I am still claiming Minnesota as my home.  Just a few weeks ago, we were enjoying the gorgeous colors of all on the trees.  And then BAM, I can't feel my nose and my face hurts when I walk outside.

Winter has arrived and with it, the bone-chilling wind and cold.  Mother Nature is even throwing a "wintery mix" our way just for fun.

Besides making sure our snowblowers are ready for that first snow dump, there are a few things that we need to do as Minnesotans to help us get ready for all of the winter things that are headed our way.

I'm not sure how you prep for the cold, winter months in the frigid state of Minnesota but here's a fun guide to help you get started.

• Buy a flannel shirt!  If you don't already have 5, Paul Bunyan would be sad and unfriend you.

• Stock up on chili supplies.  Nothing greater than a big bowl of chili on a -20 degree night...after you shoveled 20 inches of snow off your driveway.

• Go on the hunt for the winter boots!  You put these in storage but now...they are in the mass abyss with the boat, camping gear, and the Christmas totes.  (If you need to buy new ones, check out these stores that seem to have the best selection.)

• Buy a new board game and save it for that Snow Day!  We never know when this will actually happen, but it has been in May before!

Although we are bracing in Minnesota right now for an epic winter, this list is good for any state that feels the cold and snow, including Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
