The Federal Trade Commission recently released a statement that claims that spam calls in the United States, including Illinois are way down. They're saying 50% since 2021. I'm sorry but I don't believe that and neither do the residents of Illinois.

So far this year, Illinois is in the top five for most complaints to the Federal Trade Commission for spam calls. There have already been over 100,000 reports of these types of calls in our state. That's a huge amount considering there are over 10 million numbers registered for the "Do Not Call List."

I disagree with the Federal Trade Commission's claim of fewer spam calls because of my own personal experience. I registered my phone on the "Do Not Call List" back when it first started in 2015. I still get spam calls all the time. It hasn't really helped.

I can't even send in a complaint because it's a different number from a different area code every time. In fact, one time my own cellphone number called me. How is that even possible? I know better than to answer those calls but it's still annoying.

My mom still has a landline. She doesn't want to pay extra for caller ID so she doesn't even bother to ever answer the phone because the majority of the time it's spam calls. Sadly, it's come to that. Her number is registered too.
