Wisconsin Could Be Legalizing Marijuana

In northern Illinois along the Wisconsin border, cannabis dispensaries have an extra stream of revenue from people who live on the other side of the Cheddar Curtain. Marijuana is still illegal there so the residents who would like to partake come into the Land of Lincoln to buy weed. Kind of like us crossing over to purchase fireworks.

They could be changing sometime soon. There are some lawmakers in Wisconsin working hard to change the state's marijuana laws. If that happens, dispensaries along the border could take a big hit.

Last fall, a group of government officials in Wisconsin filed a couple of new bills. Those pieces of legislation would change the marijuana laws for the state. It would become legal for anyone over 21 years of age. Also, each resident could have up to five ounces and six cannabis plants. There would be a 15% sales tax on weed.

There are still many Wisconsin lawmakers that don't support the legalization of marijuana but the governor does. He understands the opportunity and the revenue that is generated by legal cannabis sales. He watches lots of money leave his state. The fall election will have a huge impact on this whole subject.
