A 17-year-old from Belvidere is dead after he was involved in a vehicle crash on Tuesday morning (1/10), according to the Winnebago County Coroners Office.

The teenage victim was reportedly driving on Shaw Road just north of Squaw Prarie Road in Belvidere around 7:30 am this morning (Tuesday) when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and hit another vehicle.

According to the press release, the 17-year-old male victim was the only occupant in the vehicle he was driving. No details about the driver or occupants of the other vehicle involved in this incident were provided in the report.

Immediately following the motor vehicle accident, the juvenile male was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, according to the press release.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday (1/11) and the Boone County Sheriff's Department will handle the investigation.
