Did you know one large portion of Lake Michigan is blamed for several mysterious shipwrecks, airplane crashes, and other weird alien-like sightings?

What Is the Lake Michigan Triangle?

Sometimes I fall deep into a legends of Illinois and Wisconsin rabbit hole, and today was one of those days.

While looking for interesting and creepy legends about Wisconsin I came across  someone asking about the Lake Michigan Triangle in the Strange Wisconsin Facebook group.

What the heck is the Lake Michigan Triangle?!? Of course, I had to find out.

Wikipedia says;

The LakeMichigan Triangle is, according to modern legends, an area of Lake Michigan where a number of disappearances, shipwrecks, and plane crashes have occurred under unexplained circumstances.

The Legend of the Lake Michigan Triangle

The Lake Michigan Triangle "stretches from Ludington to Manitowoc, down to Benton Harbor, and back to Ludington", and while one version of the legend says the Triangle is an alien base camp, the most well known legend involves a mysterious formation of stones located in one area of the lake's bottom.

According to one Milwaukee Magazine article;

In 2007, archaeology professor Mark Holley and his colleague Brian Abbot ran a sonar search around the Lake Michigan Triangle in an effort to find shipwrecks. They discovered, in about 40 feet of water, a line of stones arranged in a pattern reminiscent of Stonehenge. They sent divers to photograph the area and found, alongside the line of stones, what could be a prehistoric carving of a Mastodon, which went extinct over 12,000 years ago. The site has not been authenticated, and the exact location remains a secret.

History will confirm that many weird and tragic things have happened in this specific area of Lake Michigan, but is it really a strange stone formation's fault, OR is it something more natural like wind waves and riptides? I'd place my money on nature.
