
Traffic Stop Leads to a Massive Cocaine Bust in Rockford
A traffic stop late on Tuesday night (July 1) in Rockford turned into a big drug bust for law enforcement.
K-9 Unit Alerts Officers to Massive Drug Haul
According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Sandhutton Avenue that quickly escalated into a major narcotics investigation on Tuesday around 10 pm.

When RPD officers observed a suspicious vehicle, they initiated an inspection, and a Rockford Police K-9 unit was deployed and gave a positive alert for narcotics.
Following a search, Rockford Police officers discoverd a duffel bag containing 20 individually wrapped packages. The contents also weighed approximately 24kg, which has an estimated street value in the millions of dollars.
Chicago Man Arrested, Faces Felony Charges
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Francisco Rea Morales of Chicago. He was taken into custody at the scene, according to the press release.
The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has reviewed the case and has now authorized the following charges against Morales:
- Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
- Driving with a Suspended License
Morales is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
