The Most Googled Pie in Illinois? Spoiler Alert: It’s Not That Unique

Thanksgiving is almost here and everyone in Illinois has turkey, potatoes, and apparently, pies on the brain according to a new Google Trends study.

Every other day of the year I would rather have cookies or cake before pie, but on Thanksgiving I make an exception for a slice of delicious pumpkin pie. I mean, is any Thanksgiving meal complete without pumpkin pie? I sure don't think so!

My family is pretty large and everyone brings a different dish for the feast, so having a couple different dessert options is pretty much a norm for us. Now the big question is, what other pies should we have other than pumpkin?

The Most Uniquely Searched Thanksgiving Pies

When you think of the most unique Googled pie in Illinois, you’d expect something with a little flair, right? Maybe a savory pot pie? A trendy salted caramel apple creation? Nope. Illinois has spoken, and apparently, the state's pie game is about as exciting as a cardboard box.

Before I share what the most searched for pie in Illinois is according to a recent HuffPost article,  I think we need to clarify what qualifies as a "unique" pie search.

Google’s “uniquely searched” data refers to pie varieties that showed a higher volume of searches in a given state compared to the country as a whole over the past month.

Is that explanation confusing to you? Yeah, me too. Perhaps this map will help...

Really, Illinois? Cherry is the pie everyone is searching for in 2024? Is there a new hot cherry pie trend going on that I don't know about? This result has me kind of shook.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that cherry pie is terrible...it just feels so un-Thanksgiving like.

Apple or Pecan pie seems to fit the harvesty-Thanksgiving theme better. Cherry pie screams summer and the 4th of July to me, not Thanksgiving.
