Not feeling the holiday spirit yet? The Norwegian's Snømarket happening this weekend in Rockford should be able to fix that problem!

Christkindlmarket Market Fun in Illinois

Every holiday season I hear people raving about  the massive Christkindlmarket in Chicago, but I have yet to go there and experience it for myself, which is odd.

These traditional German-inspired markets have become a cherished holiday tradition across the world by bringing together a mix of culture, community, and Christmas cheer...they are basically like stepping into a beautiful holiday postcard full of twinkling lights, food, and shopping.

I LOVE Christmas and every joy, snack, and experience that comes along with it, so going to a Christkindlmarket is right up my alley, BUT the main reason I haven't been to one yet is:  I really hate dealing with huge crowds.

If huge crowds aren't your thing, but holiday cheer is, check out The Norwegian's Snømarket happening this weekend in Rockford.

Snømarket at The Norwegian

Now that I have admitted I've never been to a Christkindlmarket, I should probably admit that I have never been to The Norwegian's Snømarket either, which is ridiculous.

I am 75% Swedish, 25% German, and several of the things happening at Snømarket are traditions my family has every Christmas too!

Snømarket will be open Friday, December 13  and Saturday, December 14 from 3 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, December 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside (and inside) The Norwegian at 1402 N Main Street in Rockford

Snømarket events include:

  • 20 vendors to shop from
  • A Viking beer bar
  • Herring tosses
  • Marshmallow trickshots
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides through the beautifully decorated homes of the Churchill Downs neighborhood.
  • Vicking storytelling and tug-of-wars
  • Hot, homemade glögg (a must at all of my family's Christmas celebrations), hot chocolate, and several other traditional Scandinavian dishes.
  • Christmas carol-oke

The Norwegian's Snømarket is free to attend, and with the weather warming up this weekend it will a great place to catch Christmas cheer!
