Important Things to Know About Illinois

I have lived in the state of Illinois my entire life, so I'm fully qualified to say things like:

  • Chicagoans will judge you if they see you put ketchup on a hotdog.
  • Born and raised Bear fans will never give up on their team.
  • Illinoisans will always complain about potholes and taxes.
  • Illinoisans are often resistant to change.

Since we're on the subject of change; do you remember when Illinois started a mission to redesign our state flag and asked residents to vote for their favorite new design?

Throughout the design voting process hundreds of thousands of votes were submitted,  BUT I'm pretty sure the State was not expecting this as the final result...

That’s right. After all that effort, Illinois residents have triumphantly decided that the best new flag design is the exact one we've had for decades. (Have you ever every heard the Illinois flag referred to as an SOB, "seal on a bedsheet", before? I hadn't before today and it made me LOL!)

For those that are unaware of what the other design finalists were, here they are with the voter results included courtesy of WGN and the Illinois Flag Comission:

The people of Illinois have certainly voiced their choice for our state flag, but state lawmakers will still get the final say. According to WGN;

The Illinois Flag Commission will prepare a report detailing its findings and recommendations to the state’s General Assembly by April 1. Lawmakers will then vote on whether to adopt a new state flag, return to a previous iteration, or keep the current one.

Honestly,  I'm not in love with any of those new designs,  but maybe a change still would be a good thing? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
