One of Rockford’s Newest Restaurants Says Goodbye After Being Open Less Than a Year

It's a sad fact, but research has proven that 20 percent of new businesses don't survive their first year, and one of Rockford's newest restaurants just found that out the hard way.

I'm pretty sure we're all guilty of hearing about a new restaurant opening in your area, being excited to check it out, and then forgetting it even exists. Sadly, I have been guilty of this exact behavior more times than I care to count.

When we forget that a new restaurant has opened in our community, bad things happen. We not only miss out on some great eatin', but it severely impacts the success of that business too.

I don't know about you, but Friday night is always pizza night in my house, and I've never had a pizza pie that I don't enjoy. Sometimes we order pizza from our old trusty favorites, and sometimes we like to switch things up a bit by trying someplace new.  If you were thinking of trying a new pizza joint in Rockford this weekend too, I have some bad news for you...

Via Sofia's Italian Kitchen in Rockford Has Permanently Closed

I never like to see a business in Rockford permanently close its doors, but when it happens without warning it's an even harder pill to swallow.

Via Sofia's Italian Kitchen at 109 N Showplace Drive in Rockford opened its doors to the public in August 2022, and as of April 1, 2023, the business is no longer.

If you're currently wondering, "how did I miss this news?!?", you're not alone. Via Sofia's gave no public warning about the permanent closure, they just issued a statement on April 2 via Facebook that said in part;

Dear Via Sofias Customers and Friends. We are saddened to share the news that the Via Sofias Italian Kitchen Rockford store is closing. The decision was made based on labor contraints in the market and other business challenges that restaurants face.

The message also said the previous day, April 1, was its last day of business. Here is the full statement...

Will something new be opening in Via Sofia's location on Showplace Drive soon? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
