Rockford Starbucks Workers Are Preparing to Strike for a Fair Contract
Right in the midst of Pumpkin Spice Latte season, Rockford baristas will be taking off their aprons and picking up their picket signs to rally for fair contracts and better pay.
Will Starbucks Workers Strike?
I love a good cup of coffee, but I don't live and die by a daily Starbucks fix.
That being said, I know a lot of people who roll through the Starbucks drive-thru every single day, so they need to prepare themselves now for what's happening Thursday 10/30) at the Starbucks located at 3001 North Perryville Road in Rockford.
I received a media release today that said:
On Thursday, October 30 at 2 p.m., Starbucks Workers United members and supporters will rally outside the Starbucks at 3001 North Perryville Road in Rockford. The event is part of a nationwide wave of 70 pickets in 60 cities, all aimed at urging the coffee giant to finalize a fair union contract that improves staffing, hours, take-home pay, and workplace protections.
Before coffee lovers begin to panic, Starbucks baristas will not be on strike tomorrow, but that day could be coming soon.
Starbucks workers all across the country are voting on whether a strike should be authorized, but there's still hope that Starbucks higher-ups will meet their demands, which they have been unwilling to do at this point.
Starbucks supporters, customers, and community members are invited to join the picket line on Thursday to show solidarity with Rockford’s baristas who are asking for better pay and hours, improved staffing, and on-the-job protections.
