Rockford Police were involved in a car chase involving four teenagers and a K-9 police dog on Wednesday night, according to a press release.

Teens Flee From Law Enforcement in Stolen Vehicle

Around 7:45 pm on Wednesday evening (5/17) Rockford Police officers observed a vehicle that was reportedly stolen out of Bartlett, Illinois in the area near S. Main Street and Harrison Road.

The stolen vehicle then fled from Rockford Police and was later spotted near Kishwaukee and 8th Avenue where officers saw 4 male occupants run from the vehicle, according to the report.

Rockford PD apprehended a 15-year-old male after a short foot pursuit and the K-9 tracked two 16-year-old male suspects who were also taken into custody.

While investigating the stolen vehicle, officers recovered a rifle and ammunition.

The 15-year-old and one of the 16-year-old male suspects was lodged in the juvenile detention center, and the other 16-year-old was released to a parent, according to the press release. A fourth suspect that fled the vehicle has not been yet been found.

Charges against the three juvenile males are as follows:

  • 15-year-old juvenile male from Rockford is charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle, resisting arrest, and violation of home confinement.
  • 16-year-old juvenile male from Rockford charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, criminal trespass to a vehicle, and resisting arrest.
  • 16-year-old juvenile male from Rockford is criminal trespass to a vehicle, and resisting arrest.

The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. -Rockford Police Department
