Will A Second Round Of Ice Hit Illinois This Weekend?
Just as Northern Illinois residents are recovering from the recent ice storm, another winter system is on the horizon, poised to deliver a mix of snow and ice this Saturday.
Illinois Winter Weather Advisories
Earlier this week I was complaining that Illinois hasn't seen enough snow and that this winter might be the least snowiest in state history, but now I must apologize...I think I may have jinxed us.
Illinois may not have received measurable snow overnight, but we did get a blanket of ice that accumulated fast and hit me flat in my face when I left for work this morning...literally.
While I continue to nurse the bruises I sustained falling in my driveway today, I should probably get some padding, because round 2 may be coming to the Stateline area this Saturday.
According to First Warn Weather Center Meteorologist Jordan Wolfe;
our next weather system will arrive over the weekend. This system will take a similar track to the latest one, placing the rain and snow line close by again. There may be a slightly cooler pattern aloft allowing for more snow compared to freezing rain this time around but expect a wintry mix with slick spots possible on Saturday.
Wonderful, right?
FYI, other weather authorities in Illinois agree with this wintry forecast and expect it to hit our area early to late afternoon on Saturday...
If we learned anything from this week's first ice event I think it is this;
- The City of Rockford and surrounding towns and villages did an awesome job pre-salting roadways on Wednesday night so they were drivable early this morning.
- Forgetting to salt your own driveway and sidewalk ahead of the storm is key...unless you like slipping, sliding, and falling.
Be careful out there and stay weather aware the next few days...there's a chance we might seen a snowstorm move in early next week.
