Midwestern Principal’s ‘No Phone New Friends Friday’ Lunches

After seeing way too many kids with their heads down, staring at a phones, Principal Janet Behrens started a new way to do lunch on Fridays.

Iowa Valley Junior-Senior High School in Marengo, Iowa is having some success with a new 'No Phones, New Friends Friday, lunch plan. On Fridays, the cafeteria becomes a NO PHONE ZONE.

Students get a colored card when they walk in the cafeteria that tells them at which table to sit. The tables also have conversation starters.

Even though some of the students were slow to adjust (not surprised), the school is seeing some great success.
