All Aboard! Rockford’s Nicholas Conservatory Brings Back Its Holiday Model Train Display
There’s something about Nicholas Conservatory during the holidays that feels like stepping straight into a snow globe, minus the snow in your shoes. Just being anywhere near this place in December has become a Rockford tradition, and this year brings even more to look forward to.
A Rockford Holiday Favorite Returns

The Sinnissippi Station Model Train Exhibit returns to Rockford’s Nicholas Conservatory beginning December 6, 2025, running through January 25, 2026. It’s one of the area’s most beloved winter attractions, filling the lush tropical gardens with the sights and sounds of seven G-scale trains and trolleys winding through bridges, tunnels, and miniature Rockford landmarks.
A Miniature World Full of Local Charm
Each train is painted to represent historic Rockford railways, and the exhibit features detailed replicas of local icons like the Coronado Performing Arts Center, Sinnissippi Park Music Shell, Symbol sculpture, and—new this season—Veterans Memorial Hall.
Local artists even add their touch with colorful graffiti cars.
Designed With Imagination and Heart
Created by Applied Imagination Ltd. of Kentucky, the display combines creativity, craftsmanship, and nostalgia using natural materials like pinecones, acorns, and sticks to bring every detail to life.
