No More Snow, It’s Time To Think Summer
You know what? I'm over the snow. I'm sure you are too. I know that it wasn't a whole lot of snow but just the sight of it along with the cold temperatures made me realize it was time to shift my way of thinking. So let's forget about the cold and snow and start having warm thoughts. The easiest way for me to think about summer is through my favorite summer jams.
How can you possibly make a summer music list without adding DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince? When you hear "Drums please", you know it's on.
Maybe it's the beat, the subject matter, or the idea of a cool milkshake on a hot summer's day, but this immediately makes me think summer. Thanks Kelis.
While "Jump Around" from House of Pain isn't quite a summer jam for everyone, it is for me. Back in 1992, right when this song was about to blow up, a friend and I decided that we would only listen to this song once a day so we could keep it fresh. That lasted a week.
I went through an awkward phase that started in early teens and lasted to my late teens early twenties late twenties thirties, so when I discovered Rusted Root, I was pretty sure they were an awesome band. Since then I have changed my mind a bit but I have never waivered on my love for "Send Me On My Way". Nevertheless, it takes me back to the summer of '95. What a gloriously awkward time.
Chances are, you have never heard of these guys. If you went to college in Indiana sometime in the mid-90's you know who I am talking about. I was completely oblivious to The Why Store until I saw them close out a music festival in the summer of 1996 and I thought they were great! I'm not entirely sure what the fellas from The Why Store are doing nowadays but when I hear this song it brings me back. I love it! (Plus the Lego video this guy made is super rad.)
What are your favorite summer jams? Let me know.
