Besides being the year of suck, 2020 will also be known as the year with no summer fun, and the summer cancellations are now leaking into Fall and I do not like it.

For the record, I fully understand why the organizers of all these cancelled events have come to the decisions they did...it's all in the name of public safety, but it still sucks.

There was no St. Patrick's Day parade in Rockford this year, there won't be a parade or fireworks on the 4th of July, and now we can add no Labor Day parade to the cancelled list of sadness.

The organizers of Rockford's Labor Day Parade, Rockford United Labor, recently posted on Facebook;

This year Rockford United Labor will be organizing a day of service, collecting food and supplies for those in our community in need, in lieu of the annual Labor Day Parade. This decision was based on many discussions with public health leaders, city government and our members.

I love that Rockford United Labor has found a way to turn bad news into something good for our community. So many people in Rockford have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the effort to make ends meet will continue for months for so many local families.  I truly hope that this new day of service being organized by Rockford United Labor will allow all community members who want to help the chance to do so.
