Beware of a new scam targeting Venmo users through clever tactics. It starts with an alarming text message that claims someone has signed into your Venmo account near a specific location.

It would be more convenient if there was an actual "scam season" that we would know was coming at a certain time each year. Sure, the holidays are a big time of year for scammers, but have no doubt that they're looking at ways to take your money and information 365 days per year here in Illinois.

According to a report from the Rockford Regional Office of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the number one way to illicitly grab money and personal information from others is to prey upon our fascination with online shopping.
