As we're staring in the face of a summer without fairs and festivals to keep us entertained, we need to find new and creative ways to have some fun.

I firmly believe every Rockfordian needs to take a float down the Kishwaukee River with a cooler full of cocktails at one point in their life. If you've never done it before, get yourself a black inner-tube, (I think they hold up best for river floats), and make plans to go this weekend. If you've done it a bazillion times and need to spice up your tubing life, might I suggest taking this all-day float at Fox Hollow Tubing in Sheridan, Illinois?

Fox Hollow Tubing, located on the Fox River, is just a bit over an hour away from Rockford and promises a day full of floating featuring an island to picnic on and a sand bar to get dru... I mean meet new friends on.

The price to tube is $20 for the 3-mile trile and $30 to go 6 miles. Guests can also rent cooler tubes for $20. Only cash is accepted.

Floats start at 9 a.m. with the last journey departing at 3 p.m. If you choose the shorter Illinois tubing trip, it lasts about three to four hours and takes you about three miles down the river.

When taking a glance at Fox Hollow Tubing's Facebook today, it looks like all tubes sell out fast on weekends, (if the river level isn't too high), so you should probably make a reservation for this weekend right now at foxhollowtubing.com.
