The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), tracks the annual number of sightings of UFO's in the US and Canada. They reported a received 5,791 in 2019, nearly double the 3,395 in 2018.

Peter Davenport, of Davenport, Washington, said he doesn't understand why more people called in reports in 2019. He told ABC "One of the mysteries of ufology is there is a fluctuation in the number of reports over the years. Some years it’s been low, but it’s gotten higher recently."

California saw the biggest spike in sightings, 485, compared to the 182 reports received in 2018.

Peter's website takes and posts reports sent in by people all over the country, and most of the times are anonymous. Peter doesn't investigate any claims, and believes often times submissions can overlap from people seeing the same object.

One belief of why the sightings have increased is due to SpaceX launching 180 satellites up this year alone. If you remember in 2017, they launched a Falcon 9 rocket that many in CA thought was a UFO or an invasion by extraterrestrials.

Rick Feinberg, spokesman for the American Astronomical Society, said "If you’re not keeping up with the news and not familiar with the skyline, you might mistakenly see an unidentified flying object. It may be unidentified to you, but known to others."
