If you're me, prime rib, rib roast, or whatever you want to call it, is a special occasion meal.

I mean, I'm decent in the kitchen, and that is something I'm not willing to try to prepare.

It can go so wrong so quickly that I prefer to eat prime rib at a restaurant that does that delicious cut of beef correctly.

My best prime rib was at Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue in Kansas City.

While that was an unforgettable meal, I can't get it as often as I like, considering I reside in Illinois.

BEST PRIME RIB IN ROCKFORD

That means I have needed to find different sources for prime rib. The Hoffman House in Rockford, as does the now-defunct Giovanni's, has some fantastic prime rib.

While both restaurants served outstanding prime rib, neither could match Mental Floss' list of 10 restaurants.

THE BEST PRIME RIB IN ILLINOIS

Their 10 of America's Most Celebrated Restaurants for Prime Rib article includes two spots in Illinois.

Smith & Wollensky, despite a fire breaking out in their kitchen just a few weeks ago, is one of Illinois' best spots for prime rib. Mental Floss says, "One of the restaurant's signature items is the classic 26-ounce prime rib."

The other primo prime rib hot spot in Illinois is Lawry's The Prime Rib. Mental Floss says, "Lawry's The Prime Rib has served roasted prime ribs of beef since it opened in Beverly Hills in 1938."

The bad news is that Lawry's The Prime Rib closed in late 2020, so it's no longer an option in Illinois.
