Twice a year I seem to get a horrible cold; typically when we transition from fall to winter and winter to spring. My body aches, my eyes begin to itch, I cough so hard I get abs and it feels like nails tearing up my throat every time I try to swallow; and it's not allergies.

Nine times out of ten it's bronchitis, and my first inclination is to run to immediate care to ask for the azithromycin; anything to make the pain go away as soon as possible.

We all do that, too; am I right? Penicillin, amoxicillin, azithromycin...any antibiotic is the cure all for any and everything that ails us. Unfortunately, that's just not the case.

In fact, it's quite the opposite. At least that's the case according to NBC Chicago, who investigated the latest superbug that's on the rise and not only is there no treatment; most of the cases were reported right here in Illinois.

Listen to what medical professionals had to say about our use of antibiotics to treat common medical conditions like ear infections, bronchitis and sinus infections.

This all sounds like a plot for a Hollywood movie about a scary infection or crazy medical pandemic; but is this crazy?
