We had some girl power overload in the best way possible with the Rockford Fire Department earlier this month.

The Rockford Fire Department has been hopping the last few weeks battling structure fires in downtown Rockford. Fires in old buildings, such as the former Hanley Furniture building, can be extremely dangerous for firefighters battling the blaze, so that is why the RFD has started using drones to get a better handle on what they are dealing with.

A portion of State Street was temporarily closed this morning after a woman jumped from a bridge in downtown Rockford.

An exhibit just opened at Midway Village Museum chronicling the diverse history of fighting fires in Rockford and it's a must see.

The vigil starts on Thursday (7/14) at 9pm ending Friday, July 15 at noon. The vigil will be held at Court Street Methodist Church at 215 N. Court Street in Rockford.

We wanted to know what it was like to get suited up to go fight fires. Firefighters wear 70-80 pounds of gear but that wasn't the problem when we tried.
