Teacher of the Week: Mrs. Atkins from Rockton Grade School

Congratulations to our newest 'Teacher of the Week', Mrs. Atkins from Rockton Grade School.

We hooked Mrs. Atkins up with Cupcakes from Sugar Jones, Flowers from Broadway Florist and $50 in services from Xeno Salon & Spa.

The winning nomination came from student Madisyn Jury and her mom, Madison's mom writes:

Mrs. Atkins is an amazing teacher. She is kind and caring. She not only teaches her students the subjects they are required to learn, but also very important life skills about acceptance and love for the world around them.

 

Madisyn has a port wine stain on her face and receives treatments at UW she was nervous about how kids in her class would react to her bruised face. Mrs. Atkins let Madisyn talk to her class about her procedure and answer questions so she didn't have to feel uncomfortable.

 

This week a boy in her class just started wearing a hearing implant, he was nervous about how everyone would react. Mrs. Atkins got headband for his whole class to wear so he wasn't the only one different the day he started wearing it. She shows her students how to love, accept and support each other. Something you should learn at home but unfortunately not all kids do. Madisyn is so appreciative to have a teacher who cares about not only her education but her as a person.
