It's the biggest, most-followed 'Food Rule' in my life. I will never eat this particular Beloit restaurant's taco because of a disturbing childhood image.

'Unofficial' Food Rules

Everybody has a few 'food rules' by which they live. Rules like,

  • No ketchup on hot dogs ever
  • Pineapple is NOT for pizza
  • Never turn down a free meal
  • Dip McDonald's fries in their tartar sauce (trust me on this one!)

This 'food rule' thing is exactly why I can't see myself trying the latest, very popular, new taco from Truk't Street Tacos, Tequila, and Whiskey in Beloit, Wisconsin.

Chicken tinga, Korean BBQ, and Surf & Turf are my go-to tacos at Truk't. There is so much good food on the menu at Truk't, and the flavors they create are worth the trip every time, but there's one taco on the menu generating some big talk. Michelle Abraham, 97ZOK's Midday Michelle and host of Good Day Stateline, shared her love for these tacos with an unlikely ingredient, that I will never try.

And the thing is, it's not because I don't like the taste of the main ingredient, I've actually never eaten it, it's because of an image of them I can't remove from my brain.

The Trukt's taco ingredient I will never eat is Brussels Sprouts. I will never try their charred Brussels sprouts tacos, served with fried onion straws, smoky morita salsa, and garlic aioli.

When I was 8 years old, I was at my best friend's house for a sleepover, and when his mom put a bowl of Brussels sprouts on the dinner table, he whispered to me that they looked like the Jolly Green Giant's testicles.

All these years later and I still can't get that out of my head. Below are the 2 reasons I won't be trying this taco.

The Jolly Green Giant was a TV commercial character I saw daily, now seeing his 'testicles' in that bowl in front of me won't ever go away.
