New Illinois Laws for 2025
A new year means not just resolutions but also a fresh batch of laws to keep life interesting. This year, the state has rolled out hundreds of new rules covering everything from a minimum wage bump to easier ways to cancel that gym membership you forgot you had. But it’s not all about making life easier—some new laws are downright head-turners, with certain things now officially banned in the Land of Lincoln.
So, what made Illinois’ forbidden list this year? Stick around—we’re diving into the top three things that are now a big no-no in 2025.
Starting July 1, 2025, hotels with at least 50 rooms will be prohibited from providing single-use plastic bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and other personal care products in guest rooms and public restrooms. The ban will apply to all hotels by 2026.
This ban applies to all public, charter, and private schools. It prohibits any form of corporal punishment under any circumstances.
