Shortly after declaring Beyonce the rightful recipient of last night's (February 12) Album of the Year winner at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, Adele reportedly broke her gramophone statue in half and offered a piece to the "Formation" singer.

Moments later, Adele explained her acceptance speech -- in which she noted, in part, "...I can’t possibly accept this award...the artist of my life is Beyonce and this album for me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental" -- during a rare press interview following the awards show's end.

"I spoke to her before just to let her know how honored and privileged I felt to be nominated alongside her, and we spoke afterward as well and she was very gracious and humble, as always, as we've come to expect," the 25 singer said via Billboard. "And the reason I felt the need to say something is because my album of the year is Lemonade. She is my icon of my whole life."

"Like I said in my speech, my album of the year is Lemonade. So a piece of me did die inside, as a Beyoncé stan — not going to lie,” she continued, via PEOPLE, before echoing what so many viewers thought as they watched last night's Grammys conclusion.

“I was completely rooting for her, I voted for her. I felt like it was her time to win," Adele said. "What the f—k does she have to do to win album of the year?”

Adele's gesture of snapping off a piece of her Grammy to give to Beyonce immediately drew comparisons to the 2004 comedy Mean Girls, when Lindsay Lohan's character, Cady Heron, broke off bits of her Spring Fling Queen crown and offered them to her fellow classmates.
