Are There Benefits Of Lowering The Drinking Age In Illinois?
An Illinois Lawmaker wants to lower the legal drinking age to 18 when accompanied by a parent, but there's a lot of mixed emotions about it.

In December of 2024, State Rep, John Cabello, proposed legislation that would allow the drinking age to be lowered to 18 as long as a parent is present. His argument is that when you're of legal age, you're now a contributing member of society and, sometimes, serving the country already.
“By lowering the drinking age, we are acknowledging their maturity and ability to make responsible decisions, just as we do in other aspects of their lives.” [News Release]
Would this encourage more families to dine out more and help the economy flourish? Maybe, but maybe not.
