Byron Teacher Makes a Big Difference for Students With Special Needs
Congratulations to our brand-new Teacher of the Week, Mrs. Kaitlyn Nelson from Byron Middle School.

Sheila Quigley penned this lovely letter about Mrs. Nelson:
My son is 12 years old, in 7th grade, and currently attends Byron Middle School in a self-contained classroom. He is non-verbal and has Autism. This is the start of his 2nd year with Mrs. Nelson. She has gone above and beyond for my son. She has changed his schedule to better accommodate his needs. She is in constant contact with me if there are any issues or concerns. She plans monthly field trips or outings to help him and his classmates acclimate to the public.

He had a really hard time in gym class last year, so she started having him walk on a treadmill to get exercise at school. Special education teachers and paras are a gift that special needs families do not take for granted. She deserves Teacher of the Week to show her how much she means to her students and her career. Thank you for your time and consideration.
As Teacher of the Week, Mrs. Nelson received a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes, money to spend at WM Day Spa Salon, and a tote filled with goodies from Benassi Family Dentistry.
