There has been some chatter that Daylight Saving Time is going to permanently end.

Not just end and then six months later restart, like end forever and not come back.

The End of Daylight Saving Time in Illinois

On the other hand, politicians have been discussing this topic for quite some time, so will it really happen? The uncertainty brings a touch of excitement, but one thing we know for sure is that it will definitely transform the way you live.

Here's how it will affect us in Illinois:

Illinois observes daylight saving time from March to November, shifting clocks forward an hour to extend evening daylight.

During this time period, the latest sunsets of the year happen in June.

For example, according to timeanddate.com, the sunrise on June 24 is at 5:16 a.m., and the sunset is at 8:29 p.m.

If Illinois opted to remain on standard time year-round, sunrises and sunsets would shift an hour earlier.

Using June 24 as an example again, sunset would be at 7:29 p.m. and sunrise at 4:16 a.m., effectively starting and ending daylight an hour earlier.

If you're an early riser like me, witnessing the sunrise in the morning is wonderful; however, the absence of sun at night, particularly during summer, can be quite disappointing.

How the End of Daylight Saving Time Will Affect Illinois

Instituting this proposed change would create noticeably earlier sunsets throughout the year.

For example, on March 23, under standard time, instead of the sun setting at 6:06 p.m. rather than 7:06 p.m. as expected with daylight saving time in effect.

This dramatic shift could significantly affect daily routines, including energy usage and outdoor activities. It's a change that will require some thoughtful adjustments.

Would you like to see Daylight Saving Time disappear? Personally, I'd like to see it in effect all the time instead of just half the year, but that's just me. What about you?
