Rockford's Founders Commission's second annual DIAMONDS event shined a light on mental health with Rockford native Michelle Wiliams who surprised the crowd with a live performance.

Famous people weren't all born in New York or L.A., they grew up in the same mid-size towns that you and I did. Sometimes you're twenty years old and find out one of your favorite stars was born near you. Maybe they don't talk about it a lot or never return home to visit.

That's not the story for Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams. Michelle has always shared her Rockford, Illinois roots and doesn't shy away from returning home. In fact, Michelle has been outspoken about her upbringing in Rockford, especially when she wrote her book 'Checking In,' in 2001.

Last night, Michelle was the focus of Rockford's Founders Commission's second annual DIAMONDS event. The concept behind the event is to bring one of the Stateline's diamonds back home for an open discussion about an important topic.

Michelle's mental health journey is the basis for her book and was the leading portion of the event last night, which was hosted by another very successful Stateline native, ESPN's Nicole Briscoe.
