Don’t Leave These in Your Car When It’s Cold in Illinois — Here’s Why
If you leave earbuds in your car on a regular basis, you might want to think twice about keeping them in the glove box as the temps drops in Illinois.
Believe it or not, freezing temps can do more than just mess with your car battery. They can actually destroy your electronics, too!

When you leave your earbuds in the car overnight the brutal Midwest cold seeps in and messes with everything inside them. Basically, they don't stand a chance against an Illinois winter.

It's best to keep your earbuds, and any electronics, at room temperature. If they've been sitting in the cold, don't just turn them on right away. Let them warm up gradually before you try to use them again. The plastic and rubber can become brittle, batteries drain ridiculously fast, and condensation can form inside once they warm back up (which can ruin the sound quality!).
Other things you should never leave in your car when it's freezing outside? I might as well give you the rundown!
- Water bottles - They can burst when frozen
- Medications - Extreme temps can make them less effective
- Laptops/tablets - Batteries drain faster and screens can crack
- Aerosol cans - I've made this mistake many times!
- Food & drinks - You will regret at frozen coffee explosion later
- Makeup/Cosmetics - Nobody likes texture change after makeup defrosts
- Pets (obviously...) - Cold can be just as dangerous as heat!
