Famous Illinois Eatery Called One of the World’s Best Restaurants
When I was originally looking at this list of the World's 50 Best Restaurants I was admittedly a bit surprised.
As I was going through it I fully expected to see a whole host of American restaurants filling up the space.
What I found instead on The World's 50 Best website was only a smattering of US eateries.
Apparently, food outside of America is pretty darn good, and while I'm totally biased toward what I get here in the US, especially in Illinois, it isn't as good as what you might get around the globe. That is if you believe what The World's 50 Best is telling you.
I was on the fence too but that was before I read this. Long story short, The World's 50 Best is legit:
Thanks to its panel of 1,080 culinary experts, as well as its structured and audited voting procedure, the annual list of the world's finest restaurants provides a snapshot of some of the best destinations for unique culinary experiences, in addition to being a barometer for global gastronomic trends.
So as I was trudging through restaurant after restaurant only to see eateries in Paris, Madrid, Lima, and Copenhagen all get big nods, I was wondering when I would see some local flavor.
I finally did, but it took a minute. I mean out of the 100 Best Restaurants in the World, they added another 50 (51-100), in total only four were in New York, another in San Francisco, and finally, one in Chicago.
I've mentioned this Chicago restaurant to you a few times now, and I was glad to see Oriole make the list of the world's finest places to get something to eat.
One look at Oriole on Facebook tells you everything you need to know about the place. The setting, the food, all of it is top-notch and well deserving of the honor.
Despite averaging a five out of five, Oriole is surprisingly rated 48th out of 5,618 restaurants in the Chicago area on TripAdvisor.
Reviewers refer to Oriole as a "spectacular experience" and maybe "the best restaurant ever" while others say it's "not worth $500 a head."
If you have a bucket list of restaurants you need to try before you die, Oriole should probably be on it. Oriole is located at 661 West Walnut Street in Chicago.
