This week we celebrate Juneteenth, the holiday honoring June 19, 1865 when Union Army Gen. Gordon Granger told enslaved people in Galveston, Texas they had been liberated. Many businesses will not be open in Illinois on June 19.

While Juneteenth is a National holiday, some of us may be unclear as to which businesses are open and which are closed.

Thanks to ABC 7 in Chicago and USA Today, we have a pretty big list as to what businesses will be open for business this Juneteenth.

What's NOT open on Juneteenth

  • The United States Post Office
  • Most major banks and financial institutions
  • Wall Street
  • Federal Offices
  • Schools

What IS open on Juneteenth

  • UPS locations
  • FedEx locations
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Starbucks
  • Costco
  • Hope Depot
  • Lowe's
  • Walgreens

If you have the day off or you have time to celebrate Juneteenth, there will be a Juneteenth celebration in Rockford at Sinnissippi Park from 1p.m. until 9 p.m.

The day will be packed with guest speakers, performances, talent shows, Juneteenth awards, a dance party, a Las Vegas trip giveaway and a headlining performance starting at 7:15p.m. featuring Con Funk Shun.
