Illinois Foodies: What's The Most Overrated Food Trend

America loves getting their hands on the most viral trends, even if that means elbowing a child for it.

One minute nobody has heard of something, and the next it's all over TikTok, showing up in every restaurant special, and selling out at grocery stores. That's just how we operate. We get obsessed with something fast.

Terrifyingly fast.

The problem with that? Most food trends have a pretty short shelf life. What feels like the hottest thing on the internet today will probably be forgotten six months from now when the next viral snack, drink, or dessert takes over our feeds.

Take Dubai chocolate, for example. I actually like it, it's good. The combination of chocolate, pistachio, and crispy filling is definitely tasty. But I've never understood the reaction some people have to it. You'd think people were discovering chocolate for the first time based on some of the videos online.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I never took a bite and thought, "Wow, this is the greatest thing I've ever eaten in my life."

That's not to say food trends are bad! The can be fun, introduce us to new flavors, and give us something to talk about. But sometimes the hype machine works overtime and turns a decent food item into a life-changing experience that it simply isn't. So that god me thinking!
