Illinois’ Poorest Town is Also the Poorest in The United States
We all have that one person in our lives- you know who they are, the person who loves to complain about how much it basically sucks to live in Rockford.
There's nothing to do, there's too much crime, property taxes are too high, there's never any good concerts that come through town, and don't even get them started on road conditions or say the word pothole.
You know what I always tell that person? Move. Just don't move to Centreville.
According to The Journal Sentinel, Centreville is the poorest town in Illinois...and in the entire country. Could you imagine living on only $16,715? Believe me, I've done it and I know it can be done, but it's not easy. That's the median annual household income of a Centreville resident; the state median is three times more than that.
Additionally, more than half of the people who live there are living in poverty.
See. Suddenly, Rockford doesn't look or sound so bad, does it?
