What if I told you the American Dream isn't so far out of reach?  All you need is patience, lots of trust in the process, and a few million dollars.

I've been living paycheck-to-paycheck for the past few years, but just recently did I start taking my finances seriously.  I realized saving for my future and deleting all my debt would help me in the long run.

Will I be able to live the American Dream in Illinois, though?  Possibly. Maybe not.

How Much Illinois Residents Need To Achieve The American Dream

According to Investopedia, the average person will need to make $4.4 million in their lifetime.  With how expensive it is to already live in Illinois, I don't see anyone living out the American Dream anytime soon... or in this lifetime.

If you want good education for yourself and your children, go on annual vacations, raise your kids comfortably, and own a home, you're looking at a few million bucks to make it all happen, and to make you happy.

With extreme discipline, financial advisors, and saving every penny you can, one day, whether that's a month or thirty years from now, you could eventually be living (what society calls) the American Dream.

Is it worth trusting the process, though?  Many wouldn't waste their energy trying to achieve it when it's not guaranteed, and others believe this is an "American Nightmare" if anything.  Saving a penny every paycheck is hard enough this day in age.

George Carlin once said, "It's called the American Dream cause you have to be asleep to believe it."  and I'll leave it at that.
