Until today, I had no idea that it wasn't a widely served menu item across the globe.

I mean, maybe because it got its start in Chicago but according to Taste Atlas, the top five places for Shrimp DeJonghe are all in Illinois.

Those restaurants include Raymes Steak & Fish House in Lisle, Petterino's, Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House, and Gene & Georgetti which are located in the Windy City.

I'm kicking myself for missing out on the Shrimp DeJonghe at the #1 place on the list.

A few years ago I ate at this restaurant and was blissfully unaware of its standing as the best spot in the world for Shrimp DeJonghe.

The restaurant is called Bavette's Bar & Boeuf. Located at 218 West Kinzie Street in Chicago, where renowned food critic Phil Vettel said:

There’s a nice version of Shrimp DeJonghe, a Chicago invention, the sauteed shrimp heavy with garlic and sweetened ever so slightly with sherry butter.

For the most part, Yelp reviewers agree. Lauren F. had the Shrimp DeJonghe during a recent trip and said "Butter, garlic, shrimp, a touch of sherry, and texas toast? Heaven! Make sure you use that toast to sop of every last bit!"

Just thinking about the Shrimp DeJonghe is making my mouth water.

On the other hand, Sam T. called the Shrimp DeJonghe "good but nothing to write home about."

Regardless, Bavette's is a total vibe. I loved my time at that restaurant and have been thinking about returning for quite some time.
