Illinois Roads Among Nation’s Most-Feared for Winter Driving
If you're anything like me, winter driving is a nightmare, especially in Illinois.
Streets aren't always plowed, salt isn't always coating the ground, and black ice might be the next bump you hit. It's a true game of survival when you're on the road.
Every time I take an exit on a cold, icy day, I’m terrified of hitting black ice. I’ll never forget the time I hit black ice and flew into a ditch—an experience that left me with a lasting fear of winter roads.
Now I have to watch out for these five major Illinois roads because they just made the list of the nation’s most feared for winter driving? Yay us… (just kidding).
According to a recent survey of 3,000 drivers, the following Illinois roads are among the worst in the country to drive on during winter months:
- Interstate 90
- Interstate 80
- Interstate 55
- Interstate 94
- Interstate 57
Been on any of those interstates lately? I've been on 90, but you bet I'm going the speed limit! Not a single mile over. Ain't risking it!
These highways are especially dangerous when snow, sleet, or black ice hit, making even the most experienced drivers nervous. Honestly, I wish we could teleport or fly everywhere instead. It might cut down the number of accidents we have and make winter driving a little less stressful.
If you already have a major fear of driving in winter, or just worry about losing control of your vehicle, you might want to avoid these Illinois interstates if you can. It could save you from not only a panic attack but also from the very real possibility of a wreck.
