Since the school shooting that took place on Valentine's Day in Parkland, Florida, multiple schools have received a number of threats from students against them.

Credible or not, it's made it very difficult for parents to send their children to the one place they should feel the safest when they're not at home- school.

Because of the community's concern over school safety, Eyewitness News, says that the Illinois State Police have begun conducting random safety checks at area schools.

Parents can expect the checks to take place during school, after school, and at school activities and events like prom.

By doing this, the hope is that parents, teachers, school staff and all students will safe and secure.
