Illinois UFO Sightings That Had People Asking Questions
Most Illinois residents have probably looked up at a flashing light in the sky at least once and thought "hmm, I'm not exactly sure that's an airplane."
Illinois is among the top 10 states with the most UFO sightings. (A full ranking of states follows below)
Several of the Land of Lincoln's UFO sightings have gained notoriety through national media coverage and even popular songs.
We combed the internet to find videos and tales of some of the more interesting UFOs to allegedly take flight over Illinois.
The video appears to have been filmed in the parking lot of the Schnucks grocery store, 2206 Barnes Blvd., near CherryVale Mall. The roofs of some of the mall's stores are visible near the end of the video
"I was outside during a lighting storm at my job, and I wanted to film the lighting," the video description reads. "After I watched the footage, I noticed two orbs floating around erratically in the sky."
Yes, there is actually a city in Illinois called "Kentucky." No, it is nowhere near the actual state of Kentucky.
Leave it to someone dubbed an "amateur astronomer" to spot a UFO above his house.
According to the report, he wasn't the only one who thought he saw something. Police received "numerous calls" about the object in the sky.
From 911 calls to police chases, this Illinois UFO sighting is one of the most notable to ever come out of the Land of Lincoln.
Not only was the story covered by both the History Channel and ABC, but the incident was also immortalized in a 2005 song by singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens.
This one is a little tricky.
There are reports of a UFO near O'Hare International Airport (well, it is an airport after all). There's also several reports of mysterious lights in suburban Tinley Park.
A "UFO expert" interviewed by Patch.com several years later claimed the incident was "not a hoax."
UFOs seem to LOVE Rockford. You can probably blame it on the Beef-A-Roo cheese fries.
You don't have to do a deep online search to find alleged UFO videos that were filmed in the Rockford area.
Out of all of the Rockford UFO videos on YouTube, this one has the most views.
"After filming some footage of the moon, I noticed a strange array of lights," the video's description says.
The video features clear images of lights in the sky. You can hear something that sounds like a plane's engine.
As you can tell from this small selection of supposed UFO sightings in Illinois, it is difficult to determine which ones are real and which ones are some random lights from a nearby tower.
If only there was someone out there who could help gauge the validity of these reports.
Maybe this gentleman Chicago's WGN interviewed in 2007 has the answers.
