Illinois Verizon Users: Why Your Settlement Payment Wasn’t $100
Verizon settlement payments are hitting accounts across the country, but customers aren't too happy with the payouts they've received.
If you've been former or current Verizon customer between January 1st, 2016 and November 8th, 2023, you were eligible to receive a payment up to $100 from this $100 million class-action settlement.
"According to the class action lawsuit, plaintiffs said that Verizon's "administrative charge" was not disclosed in the plan's advertised monthly fee and they were charged in a “deceptive and unfair manner.”" [news-press]
The amount each customer received would vary based on many factors, with potential minimum payouts of $15, plus $1 for every month they'd been with the company and paid the challenged administration fee.
Sure, many customers did receive $15... or just shy of that. For others, not even $5!
I got my payment via Venmo and received a whopping $5.63. Extra $5.63 I didn't have.
If you didn't file a claim, it's too late to do it now. The deadline was April 15th, 2024. Don't worry, you're really not missing out on much.
If you don't remember filing the claim, check your mailbox, PayPal, Zelle or Venmo. I heard some people received Mastercard gift cards and checks, depending on which payment option you selected on the claim.
Users are sharing their payments on social media, and the amounts are "shocking".
I mean, they got more than me. That's for sure!
Why weren't payments deposited in December 2024?
"According to court documents, payments began distribution to approximately 5.2 million class members Jan. 6, 2025. Payments were originally set to go out in early December, but were rescheduled for January due to the winter holidays, court documents showed." [nbcchicago]
If you've been anxiously waiting for this settlement payment, don't be disappointed when it's not as much as you were hoping. For all the work you put in filing a claim, be happy you get even a penny!
