Is R. Kelly Living In His Chicago Music Studio?
R. Kelly received a visit from the Chicago Police Department on Wednesday (January 16), but it had nothing to do with the current criminal investigation launched against him.
According to TMZ, the cops arrived to the R&B star's music studio with the Cook County Building and Zoning Dept. for an inspection because he was allegedly using it as a residence, which is illegal since the building is industrially zoned. When they entered the warehouse, they found that there was not only evidence of him living there but also discovered work done inside that was completed without a permit. To make matter worse, the 52-year-old owes $166k in back rent and is facing eviction.
The city will file an amended complaint against R. Kelly for a future court hearing.
Aside from these legal troubles, R. Kelly is currently under investigation following the accusations made against him in Surviving R. Kelly. Investigators are said to be reaching out to survivors who participated in the Lifetime show, which tells the harrowing tale of seven women who endured sexual abuse at the hands of the singer spanning over two decades.
Since the docuseries aired, many of the singer's collaborators spoke out. The majority apologized working with him, though there are a few artists who have come to his defense.
