Abandoned Places

There is just something fascinating about abandoned places.  I think it's because there is a haunting feeling of seeing a place that was once full of life become desolate.  I've always found pictures of urban decay fascinating.  Seeing something manmade slowly be taken back over by nature, it's just fascinating and eerie.   Maybe that's why we all have a curious interest in seeing photos of abandoned places.  Below you'll see footage of an amusement park that was once a popular destination for families that now sits barren.

Fun Spot Park & Zoo

Located in Angola, Indiana sits the ruins of a once popular amusement park.  According to WANE Fun Spot Park & Zoo opened in 1956.  The amusement park was a popular destination for families being one of the largest in the area, and in fact, Fun Spot was the first park in Indiana to have a rollercoaster with an inversion until 2008.

WANE says that along with having many fun rides at its height and even a small zoo, the park had much to offer the Angola area.

At its height, Fun Spot featured 24 rides, as well as water slides, a small zoo, an arcade, and food and shops. The Fun Spot grounds, located along C.R. 200 West in Angola, have sat unoccupied since the park was shuttered in 2008.

In fact, Fun Spot was featured in a book about abandoned parks all over the US, you can check out more about that, here.

Drone Footage Captures Fun Spot Remains

A video uploaded to YouTube shows drone footage of the abandoned amusement park and zoo, and it's quite fascinating.  It's amazing how nature has slowly overtaken many of the rides, but how some look like you could hop on and hit go and they'd run just fine (although that is certainly not recommended).

This video is a few years old, but it's definitely a fascinating watch.  However, I don't suggest making a trip to Angola to see Fun Spot for yourself, as according to an article from ParkWorld, in 2020 Fun Spot had officially sold off all of its ride inventory.
