This is sad all the way around. First off I am a huge animal lover and I know if anything was to happen to my four legged babies I would be absolutely devastated. Second, I have a very high respect for officers of the law. After all, they are the only ones sworn to protect us. This story is about both according to WIFR.com. A K9 police officer in Janesville named Fred was just diagnosed with melanoma cancer.

The Janesville PD said that Fred had developed a limp from what they thought was a paw injury. After Fred was treated , his wound did not heal. This month, Fred had a surgical procedure to remove apart of the pad on his toe. The Veterinarian sent that part of Fred's pad to be tested and found out that Fred tested positive for a cancerous melanoma.

Fred will be treated but they said that he will need 4 melanoma vaccine shots along with a bi-yearly shot. On a better note, Fred's handler, Officer Drew Severson, found an organization in Madison that helps to fund and treat canine cancer research so it looks like Fred will receive the proper care he needs. Hopefully soon we'll have some good news. We're all rooting for you Fred.
